The fact is that we all know we need to add more real food into our diet but it just feels difficult and like too much work! I TOTALLY GET IT and I’m right there with you, friend!

So join me in taking a deep cleansing breath and let’s take a look at how we can make this simple change together and easily add more real foods to our diet.

1. Start your morning with a smoothie.
Say goodbye to cereal and hello to smoothies for breakfast. We made the switch to smoothies over a year ago and haven’t looked back since. It’s best to start out with fruit smoothies and then add in veggies later. (My favorites to sneak in are frozen squash and zucchini – I promise you can’t taste them!) You can even add your favorite protein powder to your shakes too!

2. Eat a salad for lunch.
I know, I know, salads sound really boring…but they’re only boring if you make them boring!

My favorite additions to the normal lettuce and tomato are cranberries, pickles/cucumbers, boiled eggs, and/or mandarin oranges. The sky is really the limit to what you can add to make them yummy. And I’ve found that the key is to make up several salads at a time so that they’re available when I’m ready for lunch.

Not only will you be proud of yourself for choosing the healthier lunch option but your body will be thankful too.

3. Snack on raw nuts, fruits and veggies.
We all get the munchies so why not set yourself up for success with healthier options. At the beginning of your week make up snack bags with your nuts and dried fruit that you can quickly grab. I intentionally have a bowl of fruit on my kitchen counter so it’s easily accessible when I want to snack. (Truth be told I don’t always pick up the fruit but I do more than I used to which is a win-win for me.)

4. Make your own sauces/condiments.
Experimenting with your own sauces and condiments is a great way to add real food to your diet. You can go all out or you can start with something as easy as homemade salsa or pesto. My favorite is this Amazingly Easy Cauliflower Sauce!

5. Swap the unhealthy grains for healthy grains.
If white rice is part of your normal routine why not try eating brown rice or even quinoa.

Why is brown rice better? Well, I’m glad you asked! Not only does brown rice boost heart health and decrease cholesterol levels but it also lowers the risk of diabetes because of its lower glycemic index. White rice is made from polishing brown rice which means all of those good nutrients are stripped away!

6. Try your hand at “grainless” pasta.
Zoodles are all the rage these days. So whip out your spiralizer and zucchini to try a new variation of pasta. You just might fall in love!

7. Curb your sweet tooth with raw options.
If you’re a dessert lover then why not make a raw dessert that is actually healthy for you. If you’re like me the thought of a raw dessert sounds very intimidating but after taking a look at the recipes below you might just change your mind. I sure did!

Now it’s your turn to share! What’s your favorite way to add more real foods to your diet?
