Worrying My Problems Away

Even though I wish I could, worrying my problems away just isn't possible. But it is possible to find peace amidst our situation.

It was the middle of the night and I was wide awake. I didn’t dare look at the clock because I didn’t want to know how much time I had left to sleep.

I laid awake for what felt like hours listening to my precious husband sleeping peacefully beside me. Boy was I jealous!

My mind raced from one thought to another. I thought about this and worried about that. There were so many different scenarios that played out in my mind. I knew it was pointless to be thinking about all of these things in the middle of the night, and as much as I tried to clear my mind, I just couldn’t. If only sleep would come!

The next morning as I read my devotion, the Lord slapped me on the back of the head with Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I couldn’t help but chuckle and immediately said, “I hear you Lord.” I’m sure the He was smiling down from Heaven.

But as crazy as it sounds, at that moment I was filled with peace.

Peace in knowing that the Lord has my life in His hands.

Peace in knowing that He’s got this and I don’t have to worry about it.

Peace in knowing that no matter what I’m going to face that He’s with me and I don’t have to face it alone.

Is It Possible To Worry My Problems Away

Okay, I admit that the title of my post is a bit misleading. Even though I wish we could, we’ll never be able to worry our problems away.

And don’t get me wrong – even though I placed my worries at the feet of Jesus that morning, it doesn’t mean that I haven’t tried to pick them back up again. (In fact, I’ve struggled with worrying before and have even written about Taking Our Worries Captive in the past.) I don’t know about you, but there are times when I find it difficult not to worry.

Speaking Scripture Over My Worries

It may seem cliche, but the best thing for me to do when I want to stop worrying is to speak scripture over my situation.

If you find yourself worrying, why not memorize one of these scriptures and speak them over your situation.

Isaiah 41:13 – “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”

Philippians 4:19 – “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Jeremiah 29:11 – “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”

Isaiah 43:1b-2 – “‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.'”

Luke 18:27 – “Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible with men is possible with God.'”

What are some ways that you deal with worrying?
