The Government, Budgets and a Rant

I'm not here to blame anyone because of the financial mess that our country is in. I'm just shedding a bit of light on the situation.

Unless you live under a rock you’ve heard talk about the government and how they need to balance the budget. I’m not here to blame anyone because of the financial mess that our country is in….there are enough people already doing that!

I’m sure you’d agree with me that once you start borrowing money it’s easy to continue. You just need a little bit for this or a lot more for that. Before you know it you’ve amounted a pretty good bit of debt and you don’t really know how you got there, or you don’t really want to change what you’ve been doing because it’ll take hard work. I’d compare borrowing money to eating potato chips – you can’t eat just one and once you start popping them in your mouth you don’t want to stop (or maybe that’s just how I eat potato chips).

Borrowing money with the expectation of paying it back someday isn’t just how our government is running but it’s also how the majority of Americans live our lives. We all want to point our fingers at the government for not balancing the budget but we don’t want to get our own finances under control. Now, I’m not the smartest person in the world but it sounds a bit hypocritical to me!

Matthew 7:3 comes to mind. It says, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” If you’re not taking care of your own finances, you have no right to talk about the government. Once you roll up your sleeves and begin to balance your budget and pay down your own debt then you can have a say!

I’m stepping down from my soap box now. But, I would love to hear your thoughts.
