yard sale sign

Last month my sister told me she was going to have a yard sale and asked if I had anything to sell. Sadly I didn’t because just a few months earlier I cleaned out the house and took some goodies to the donation! I did tell her that I’d help with her sale. I mean, what are sisters for, right?

I should have thought this through a little better, especially since I don’t like to get up early and because of how cold it was going to be! Yes, that temperature gauge on my car says 28 degrees at 6:30 in the morning! Brrr!

Honestly, it wasn’t too cold while we were hauling out everyone’s “treasures” and moving around tables. And getting up early was definitely worth helping my sister. She’s such a generous person and does so much for others!

The kids braved the weather to sell the trinkets and toys they’ve outgrown. I tried to get a commission for the items that I’d given them as gifts but they didn’t want anything to do with that! ;o) We were all excited when they sold all but a few little pieces!

On Saturday morning Elizabeth decided to sell hot chocolate. And, of course, Aunt Tshanina was the first customer. At $.75 per cup, you better believe I enjoyed every morsel! How could I not buy a cup from this budding entrepreneur?

Here’s Jacob sporting a few items that his Nana Miki had for sale. (Yes, there were a few lulls in the day.)

Speaking of clothes, I’m convinced that one lady tried to steal! As I was adding up her items, she handed me a shirt that she was gripping very tightly. I thought it odd, and when I put the shirt in the bag I turned it over to see a few pieces of jewelry. The sad thing was that the jewelry pieces were only $1. As I asked her if she wanted to buy those pieces she said she didn’t know they were in there. But then she continued on and made a big deal about it. I’m convinced she knew those pieces were in there. Sad!

Mom spoiled us by not only letting us use her house for the sale (she has the best location), but she also cooked meals for us! I can’t wait to share this breakfast casserole recipe with you! It’s super simple, cooks overnight while you sleep and is so yummy!

hugh yard sale sign

As Jacob and I were picking up our signs, we spotted this one that I couldn’t pass up showing to you. I think someone was in a bit of a hurry when they filled out their sign. Do you see it? Hugh? I think they meant huge!

I saved the best tale for last! Friday afternoon two ladies pulled up. I noticed that one lady was having a hard time getting out of the car. She started walking up to me, and to put it nicely, she seemed a bit strange. She kept getting closer and I could tell that she wanted to tell me something. (Very odd, since she’d just walked up to the sale and hadn’t looked around yet.) She tries to whisper, “would it be okay if I went behind your house and peed?”

Now, as you can imagine, I was completely shocked and didn’t know what to say. Behind the house is a fence row, but there are also other houses next door that would be able to see if she whipped down her pants. As she started walking to the side of the house, I told her that this wasn’t my house and that there are other houses around (as if she couldn’t see that for herself). I guess desperate times call for desperate measures.

A few minutes later she emerged, and relief was all over her face! All I could think of was her touching the items that were for sale. Ugh!

Has anything crazy like this ever happened to you? What’s your funny yard sale story?
