Do you remember the story of Sarai, Abram, Hagar, and Ishmael? God told Abram that He would give him a son and that his offspring would outnumber the stars in the sky.
No doubt he shared the news with his wife, Sarai, who desperately desired to give Abram an heir. But she was getting too old to bear children, and she grew tired of waiting. So she convinced Abram to sleep with her maid, Hagar. Hagar became pregnant and eventually gave birth to a son – Ishmael. But Ishmael wasn’t the promised heir. If Sarai had waited on God, she would’ve discovered that God already had a plan – a plan for Sarai to become pregnant and give birth to Isaac – the promised heir. I’m sure every time Sarai looked at Ishmael, she was reminded of her mistake. Sure, God still gave her Isaac, but only in His time.
Have you birthed any “Ishmaels” lately? Have you been so impatient waiting on God’s perfect plan for your life that you’ve jumped ahead and worked out a plan of your own? If so, go back to God. Wait on His plan. It’s a really good one!
