Take A Minute TuesdayThis post may contain affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more details.
Today as we take a break from our normal posts, I encourage you to be still for just a few minutes and take some time to meet with God. God is all around us; we just have to take the time to experience Him. Psalm 46:10 encourages us to, “Be still and know that I am God.”
Many times I’ll hear people say that the Bible is boring and doesn’t have any action stories. After reading through Judges during my quiet time I must say that I totally disagree.
Among the cast of characters in Judges are people like Ehud and Jael, and that’s just in the first four chapters. Never heard those names before? Don’t feel bad because I hadn’t either.
Ehud and Jael were ordinary people like you and me. The Bible describes Ehud as a left-handed man and Jael as a tent-dwelling woman. Even though they were two ordinary people, God called them to do extraordinary things.
I imagine the scene to go something like this. “Lord, you want me to do what? But I can’t do that task; I’m just an ordinary person. Okay Lord, if you want me to do this you’re going to have to give me the courage.” That may not have been how it went down at all but that’s how I would have reacted.
C.S. Lewis says it best, “Affliction is often that thing which prepares an ordinary person for some sort of an extraordinary destiny.” In the longrun, obeying God’s call far outweighed those moments of affliction.
I’m so thankful for the reminder that God uses ordinary people, aren’t you? What is He calling us to do that may give us temporary affliction? May we be like Ehud and Jael and push through those moments of affliction to receive the calling God has on our life!
