Stop Trying To Fix Everything

If you're trying to fix things that are out of your hands, be encouraged to instead fix your gaze on the Lord! When you do a weight will be lifted!

It was Saturday and that meant that I could sleep in. After all, it was the one day of the week that Trent took care of getting his own lunch. But even as I heard him get up and get ready for work, my mind was racing with so many thoughts. As I dozed in and out of sleep, each time I woke up I had those same thoughts. They just wouldn’t go away!

My thoughts were so random (life, my business, etc.), but they were all things I wanted to change, to fix. It was really pointless because these were all things that were out of my hands, that I couldn’t do anything to change.

I decided that I might as well get up and start my day. After all, laying in bed wasn’t going to help, especially when I couldn’t turn my mind off.

My quiet time was the first thing on my agenda – if I don’t do it first thing then I’ll forget or put it off. As I read the words from my devotional (Jesus Calling by Sarah Young), it was if Sarah had written that devotion just for me. Here’s what it said. “Instead of trying to ‘fix’ yourself, fix your gaze on Me, the Lover of your soul. Rather than using your energy to judge yourself, redirect it to praising Me. Remember that I see you clothed in My righteousness, radiant in My perfect Love.”

I couldn’t hold back the tears! That was exactly what I needed to hear from the Lord! I kept reading it over and over again. “Fix your gaze on Me. Redirect praise to Me. I see you clothed in My righteousness.”

It may sound weird but as I read that devotion, it was if a weight had been lifted. All those things that I had been trying to fix earlier didn’t seem to matter anymore. My focus had changed!

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that fixing your gaze and redirecting your praise isn’t a one and done kind of thing. Just because I “let it go” on Saturday doesn’t mean that I won’t “pick it back up” another day. Much like taking our thoughts captive, this too is something we must choose to do daily.

I’ll leave you with Psalm 34:5, “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
