This Old Fashioned Taco Salad is a bit nostalgic for me because my mom served it when we were kids. We had a family of six so there were rarely leftovers. On the rare occasion that there were leftovers, you can bet your bottom dollar that there were a few fights as to who got them!
Aside from this recipe being yummy, it’s also super simple to make (a must in my kitchen) and very versatile. Feel free to use more or less of each ingredient. Make it your own! Or, you could even add your favorite ingredients,
Shh…don’t tell anyone, but the secret ingredient in Mom’s Old Fashioned Taco Salad recipe is the salad dressing. Growing up we’d use Russian dressing, but you can also use Catalina or French.
Mom’s Old Fashioned Taco Salad
1 lb ground meat (I used ground turkey that I prepared ahead of time)
2 tablespoons Homemade Taco Seasoning (or 1 store bought packet)
15 oz can Kidney Beans
11 oz bag of Doritos
2 Romaine Lettuce Hearts
3 Roma Tomatoes
1 1/2 cups Shredded Cheese
1 bottle French Dressing
- Brown your ground meat. Add taco seasoning and 3/4 cup water. Add kidney beans and continue cooking for about 15 minutes.
- While the meat is cooking, crunch up your Doritos (it’s easiest to do this before you open the bag). Place in a large bowl.
- Top with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, dressing and finally ground meat.
- Mix well and serve.
