Exciting things are on the way!

Coupon Etiquette, Week 2

You’ve made your list and scenarios and are headed to the stores. You’re actually excited about the deals that you’ve put together and hope to get out of the store paying pennies for a lot of great goodies. As you round the corner to the aisle for your first item you spot it. No, it’s not a shelf overflowing with the item you’re looking for. Sadly, it’s an empty shelf. You even reach to the very back of the shelf hoping there’s one item left but there’s not.

This scenario has happened to me more times than I can count on one hand. As you know, it can be very frustrating.

Are you clearing the shelves simply because an item is free? If so, keep in mind that someone else may have gotten excited when they saw that particular item in the sale flyer because they’re totally out of it and have been waiting for it to go on sale.

If you feel the need to have so many multiples of one item, come on the last night of the sale and stock up then (or get a raincheck). Depending on the store, you can also pre-order. I’m sure that stores like Publix would love for you to pre-order; this eliminates empty shelves and keeps the non-couponing customers happy.

I’d like to preface this by saying, if there are only two items left on the shelf then, by all means, take them both. When I say don’t be a shelf clearer that means don’t take all 15 bottles that the store has in stock. After all, we all want to get that same great deal that you did. Don’t be selfish when using coupons and certainly don’t be a shelf clearer.

Thank you for that etiquette tip! That is my PET PEEVE with my couponing…I hate when they don't have the item :( . But I do love that Publix offers rain checks and they'll accept expired coupons if it's with a rain check!
