cherish the moments of christmas

When I think of Christmas, I can’t help but remember my dad who went to be with Jesus a few years ago. I picture him passing out the Christmas presents, watching in delight as we ripped open the packages. Each year he’d read the Christmas story from the Bible (likely the same one that as children we’d find open and on the kitchen table after he read it early every morning before heading to work). When he finished reading the Christmas story he’d always have a few words to add that the Lord had placed on his heart. After the presents were unwrapped and things had quieted down, he’d take his son-in-laws, whom he loved dearly, out “to the shop” to talk, give guidance and love on them as though they were his own. Oh what sweet memories!

I would never have imagined that I’d be in my thirties and my dad would no longer be here with us. None of us expect the hard things from this life do we?

During the hustle and bustle of Christmas, I want to encourage you to take time to cherish the sweet, sweet moments of Christmas. You may have a million things on your to-do list, but are those things really important? Take out your list and mark off the things that don’t matter.

Most of all, spend some quality time with those you love. Those little ones who are growing up quickly will soon be off and raising families of their own. That husband that God gave you may need you to steal away to spend a few quality minutes with him. Your elderly family member may enjoy being in your company and talking with you. Cherish the moments while you have them and make each moment count!

How can you be intentional about cherishing the moments of Christmas?
