Arms Wide Open

I was picking up a few things at the grocery store when a little girl walked up to me. I thought she would call me mom and then turn away when she saw that I wasn’t her mom. (Yes, this has happened before.) But, that’s not what happened at all.

With a big smile on her face she said, “I’ve lost my daddy.” My heart dropped. I looked around the store for a father frantically searching for his daughter, but there was no one to be found. When I looked back to my side the little girl was no longer there. She had walked a few feet away and looked as though she was going to go skipping through the store in search of her father.

I quickly pulled her to my side and told her that I’d help her find her dad. There was no way I was going to let her roam the store and find the “wrong” person. We found a store associate and I told her the situation and asked if she could page her father. At that moment the clerk saw her father behind us.

As the little girl ran to her father’s arms I could see the relief on his face. I’m not sure that the little girl understood the seriousness of the situation but she was now safely with her father. I was relieved. I can’t imagine how relieved He was.

When a little girl lost her father in the grocery store, I was reminded of our Heavenly Father who always has arms wide open.

As I’ve thought about this situation I can’t help but apply it to each of us.

Flitting Through Life

The little girl knew she was lost but it didn’t really seem to phase her – she wanted to flit through the store. Many of us are like this little girl. We know that we are walking down a dangerous path, hanging out with the wrong friends or partaking in life situations that are harmful to us. We have a relationship with the Heavenly Father and we know that He’s out there pursuing us, wooing us back to Him but we choose to flit around this life as if nothing is wrong…as if He’s not there at all.

Running to the Father

There are others of us who know we’re lost and know how crazy our Heavenly Father is about us. We know we need to run into His arms, give Him control over our lives and choose to have a relationship with Him.

Romans 10:13 tell us, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Won’t you call out to Him? He’s right there waiting with arms open wide and He’s ready for you to run into His arms.

I pray that no matter where you are in this life that you’ll run to the safety of the Father’s arms. He waits patiently for you!
