Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite classic movies! I can watch the series over and over again and never get tired of them. I’ve been watching these movies since I was a little girl, so I’m fairly positive that I have most of the movie lines memorized.
You can imagine my excitement a few weeks ago when I found Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning, a prequel to the Anne of Green Gables movies that we all fell in love with years ago. I immediately watched the trailer and ordered the movie on the spot! Then, like a little kid, I waited in anticipation for it to come in the mail!
Sullivan Pictures did not disappoint with this prequel, and I was hooked right from the beginning!
Anne, now a novelist and aspiring playwright, heads home to sell Green Gables. When she arrives she finds long-lost, hidden letters from her father and is faced with the truth of her past. As the story unfolds, we meet Anne’s parents and learn what life was like before coming to live with the Cuthberts at Green Gables! Anne, having always been a fabulous storyteller, admits that she has even told stories about her own family. She must now come to grips with her own reality!
You’ll find characters by Shirley Maclaine and cameos by Rachel Lynde herself. Anne is played by Barbara Hershey, but the star of the show was definitely young Anne, played by Hannah Endicott-Douglas! Much like you did with Megan Follows, I have no doubt that you’ll fall in love, as I did, with this fabulous young actress!
And speaking of Megan Follows, the only thing that would have made this movie better would have been for her to play the character of Anne! It would have been the cherry on top of the cake!
I highly recommend that you check out Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning for yourself! And, if this is your first time hearing about these movies, I suggest you start with Anne of Green Gables. You will not be disappointed with these classic movies, and will enjoy watching them for years to come!
Have you seen the Anne of Green Gables movies? Besides Anne, who’s your favorite character?
