We’re Not Alone During Our StrugglesThis post may contain affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more details.
Dalton’s little face exuded joy every time he accomplished his new-found trick of rolling over. It was as if he was having his very own a-ha moment!
He had rolled over the day before – multiple times, in fact – so there was no doubt in my mind that he could do it again. But this time it was harder for him. He would sway his body one way but his head would go the opposite direction. He just couldn’t quite get it.
No mother wants to see her child struggle, and it took everything within me not to reach out and flip him over. It would have been so easy to do it for him, but if I did how could he ever learn?
My A-Ha Moment
As I listened to him grunt and watched him struggle, it hit me like a ton of bricks. Our Heavenly Father watches over us in much the same way that I was watching Dalton.
He sees us struggle.
He hears our cries.
He can “fix” our situation but He chooses not to because He wants to teach us something and/or grow our faith.
He’s there cheering us on every step of the way.
(Side Note: If I’m being totally honest, knowing that He chooses not to fix our situation is oftentimes hard for me to understand. Sure, I want my faith to grow but I don’t want to go through hard times to make that happen. It’s definitely a catch twenty-two scenario.)
When I’m walking through a struggle I don’t see Him watching me. There are many times that I choose not to open the Word to hear Him cheer me on! And I definitely don’t feel like He hears my cries. Please tell me I’m not alone!
Even as I re-read the paragraph above, one common theme stands out. Do you see it too?
I. I. I. Instead of focusing on Him, I focus on myself and my struggles. If I chose to focus on Him, I would know that He sees, hears and is cheering for me. It’s a choice, my friend!
The Other Side Of Struggle
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” – Isaiah 43:1b-2
Just as the Lord was with the Israelites, He’s with us too!
No matter what kind of struggle you’re walking through today, may you feel His presence, choose to focus on Him, and be reminded that you’re never alone!
(I’m happy to report that after a bit of a struggle Dalton did finally roll over and have his a-ha moment!)
