Thursday afternoon rolled around and I found myself not only with a runny nose but a headache that seemed to be growing. I generally don’t get headaches so I knew it had to be my allergies acting up! Ah, fun times (insert heavy sarcasm).
Thankfully I had put dinner in the crockpot so I didn’t have much prep to do for dinner. (Although, when I told Trent that I wasn’t feeling good, he offered to pick up dinner. Yep, that’s just the kind of sweet guy God’s blessed me with!)
Trent finally made it home after a long day at work. And when he pulled into the garage and turned off the car I heard two voices. That other voice could only be one person – Jayden.
As they came into the house I was trying to finish up dinner prep, and my headache was now pounding! Trent already knew I wasn’t feeling well but Jayden didn’t and he starting talking away. I was trying to be as sweet as possible without letting him know that I wasn’t really in the mood to talk. (Moms, I’m sure some of you can relate to this.)
And then admist his chatting he said something that melted my heart. That day at school the teacher asked him to write a story about his best friend. And of all people, he wrote about me! Can you believe it – me!?! Trent and I just grinned at each other!
Here’s the story Jayden wrote about: A few months ago when he was walking his dog, it crawled under their fence and wrapped himself around a mini-barn on the other side. I had heard a little kid frantically screaming for help (I’m not really sure where his family was since he was in his yard, but that’s another story) so I ran to see what the problem was. I climbed through the fence, unwrapped Rascal and gave the leash back to Jayden.
It really is the small things that make a difference in the lives of other people. I love how God brings rays of sunshine to us, especially on cloudy days!
What ray of sunshine has God brought to you lately?
