5 Things We Splurge On

hammber above piggy bankWhen people hear that Trent and I are thrifty they often think that we don’t spend any money. On the contrary – we save in certain areas so that we can spend in certain areas. It goes along with Dave Ramsey’s famous quote, “Live like no one else so that later you can live like no one else.”

Even though I say we “splurge” on these items, each of them have a line item in our budget and we plan ahead for them!

And without further ado, I present our list of 5 things we splurge on!

1. Boar’s Head Lunchmeat

If you’ve seen my grocery store posts you know that we buy Boar’s Head lunchmeat. It’s Trent’s favorite and it seems to be a lot healthier than the other lunchmeat options. And, unless it’s just something that Trent doesn’t like, I usually get the weekly Boar’s Head special!

2. Cable and a DVR

There have been times when we’ve talked about turning off our cable but it’s just something we enjoy. We also pay $5 extra a month for a DVR (digital video recorder). This little puppy will change your life! I believe you watch less TV when you own a DVR because you can fast forward through those horrible commercials!

3. Eating Out on Sundays

I usually cook dinner throughout the week so that we can eat out on Sundays. It’s nice because I don’t have to plan anything and can take the day off! We don’t always go to a nice restaurant – sometimes we’ll grab a sandwich or hit up Taco Bell! Quite often we go to restaurants that we have a coupon for.

4. Massages

The best way for me to relax is by getting a massage – it’s one of my favorite treats and I usually go once a quarter! When I do go, I usually have a gift card (from my birthday or a holiday) or can find a package, deal or Groupon!

5. Oil Changes

Trent’s a busy guy and changing the oil really isn’t his thing (and I’m ok with that!). So, we choose to take our car to professionally get the oil changed! There’s a deal on our local smart card that helps save too!

As you can see, even though we splurge on these five items, we still look for a great deal on them when we can.

What do you splurge on?

Melissa, I think the spa and the new car would have to be my favorites out of your splurges! Don’t you get a great deal on your lease too! :O) Thanks for stopping by!

I loved your idea of looking for deals. If we are vigilant we can definitely save a few extra bucks

Thanks Aashi! Just because we’re on a budget and thrifty doesn’t mean that we don’t spend money or have fun. :O)
